Volunteering my time and energy is one of the most rewarding ways I participate in my community. When I'm collaborating with friends and neighbors to make something great happen, I know I've found my place. Whether it's giving water to runners in a benefit triathlon, or helping out at my kids' school, working together for something we believe in feels good. Giving a few hours of time reverberates far beyond the effort I put in—shared commitment is what makes our communities active and strong. As we are all still trying to digest the horrific atrocities that occurred at the Boston Marathon this year, I wanted to share an experience I had just two days before this all occurred.
