Transitions in Vermont, from one season to another—no matter what it is—remind me of what I must have felt like as a kid on Christmas day. We found ourselves at the top of Stratton Mountain, where Appalachian Trail creator Benton McKaye imagined a trail that would run the length of the eastern mountains. We had hiked more than 1,000 miles to get to this point; a point which marked the end of our current adventure (thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail) and the start of our next one. Much like Mr. McKaye found inspiration for the Appalachian Trail on this summit, we too found our next calling.
