Getting Motivated to Ride to Work - Matt Williams

So here's the thing, I tell myself: My commute to work by car is 15 minutes on the highway. My commute to work by bike is 30 minutes on a quiet, picturesque dirt road. It should be easy, but guess which way I get to work every morning? Right. I know, and repeatedly tell myself, that it's pretty easy to get up 15 minutes earlier. I also tell myself, and rightly so I might add, that I'm always crunched for training time, and that by riding my bike to work I'm basically getting a free half hour in,…

Nothing New - Angela Grace

I decided to try not to purchase anything new in 2012. I kind of randomly decided, without much fanfare or announcement on Facebook. No final shopping spree, or online search, or assessment of my basics. I just keep thinking about how much I have, and how much waste there is in new things, and how most things I would need in 2012 I could get used.

We are not big shoppers, but we are kind of spontaneous people. We decide to stop at REI and all of a sudden remember we ‘need’ a new headlamp. We go…

Food as Fuel - Meg Walsh

In order for our Muscles to keep on being our Motors we also need to make sure that Real Food is our Fuel.  In my work as a nutrition and wellness consultant, that's what I strive for in my own life and the lives of the people I work with. Bicycling the Morning - Wilson Skinner

Recently, at a party, someone refused to believe that my wife Angela and I were not vegetarians. They said, “What do you mean you eat meat? You ride bikes, take public transportation, you’re from Vermont, you do good work.” This cultural confusion is pretty common these days. Apparently one our most obvious vegetarian qualities is taking public transportation and riding bicycles. Would only hippies and vegetarians put so much thought into how they travelled to work? I would say that the public transportation and bicycle commuting is  about the connection to the world around…

Fire your plow guy today! - Skye Nacel

Well, now that I have your attention...Last year we spent about $450 dollars for plowing out at our spot in the hills. It's a 150-foot driveway that heads a bit uphill with a big old curve at the end. This year we are determined to handle it on our own, by hand! So after shopping around locally we bought one of the newfangled plastic snow scoops that was actually made in Canada (gasp...not China?!). It's a hell of a lot more lightweight than the wood one I grew up using, but we'll see how it…
