Catching up with Liz Stephen, Off-Snow - Carrie Baker

Carrie Baker, one of our in-house Spokes at Muscles Not Motors, sat down with Olympian, cross-country skier and MNM Spoke Liz Stephen to talk about her rockin’ ski season that just ended in April. During Liz's short visit home to Vermont, they enjoyed some spicy Thai food on a sunny day – a nice contrast to Liz’s winter on snow. MNM: Liz, welcome home for a short break before you start up your season again! We followed you and the entire U.S. team this season and it seemed like a home run – can…

Breaking Trail for the Camel’s Hump Challenge - Tristan Von Duntz

Once a year, backcountry (or “BC”) skiers gather in Huntington, Vermont, to circumnavigate Camel’s Hump in the Camel’s Hump Challenge (CHC), and to see a different side of one of the state’s most iconic peaks. The CHC skiers get the chance to try their skills on the mountain and see some of Vermont’s most beautiful backcountry, but the CHC also has a greater purpose than simply skiing: Skiers raise money to support the Vermont chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Ski It When You Can! Exploring the Catamount Trail - Donna Smyers

The snow didn't last, but the last day of November was the official end of my between-season training. Craftsbury has made enough snow to keep a small track open no matter what the weather brings, and rolled miles and miles of snow on their vast trail network. A trail work day was the perfect way to begin the snow season – at last! Linda, Mary and I carpooled up to Craftsbury on the last Friday in November for a beautiful hour and a half of continuous skiing in the sunshine on January-like powder. If felt so good to…

Podium! - Liz Stephen and the US Women’s XC Relay Team

For the first time in history, the US women's XC relay team placed on the podium!  In late November, at the World Cup in Gallivare, Sweden, Muscles Not Motors spoke Liz Stephen and her teammates Kikkan Randall, Holly Brooks and Jessie Diggins captured the bronze medal – and proved that this U.S. Nordic racing team is a force to be reckoned with. Congratulations to the entire team!

Liz has some great photos on her blog, Full Sass.

Blink Festival and Beyond - Liz Stephen

Kikkan Randall, my teammate, and I are on our annual Scandinavian summer training trip together. This year it has taken us to the Blink Rollerski Festival in Sandnes, Norway, for a week. Yesterday was our first race, an uphill climb called Lysebotn Opp. We took a 2-hour ferry ride down the fjord that runs through Sandnes to arrive at the start of the time trial. It was for sure the most beautiful view I have ever had after a hill climb, and I have done some pretty awesome hill climbs in my time! The next day, we had a 1…
